Key Stage 1

At Purston Infant School we aim to provide the highest quality care and education for all our children thereby giving them a strong foundation for their future learning. We create a safe and happy environment with motivating and enjoyable learning experiences that enable children to become confident and independent. We value the individual child and work alongside parents and others to meet their needs and help every child to

In Key Stage 1 we build upon the great start our children have made in our Early Years Foundation Stage

We are committed to helping our children become independent, life-long learners with the knowledge and skills they need in all subjects. We are developing a progressive curriculum with opportunities for the children to learn and excel in both academic and non-academic subjects. We have high expectations for every single child.

As Key Stage 1 we are required to follow the National Curriculum 2013:

The national curriculum provides pupils with an introduction to the essential knowledge that they need to be educated citizens. It introduces pupils to the best that has been thought and said; and helps engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.

The national curriculum is just one element in the education of every child. There is time and space in the school day and in each week, term and year to range beyond the national curriculum specifications. The national curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers can develop exciting and stimulating lessons to promote the development of pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills as part of the wider school curriculum.

As also set out in the National Curriculum, at Purston we aim to offer a curriculum which is balanced and works to:

· promote the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils

· prepare pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life.
