Hello Monkeys and Elephants,

Don’t forget to send a photo of your medal designs to your class email to enter the VE day competition.  The closing date is tomorrow!  Remember to complete the activity that matches the coloured sticker on the front of your work pack.

Remember to share your reading book or another story every day.

Floppy’s Phonics

We would like you to start your day with some phonics. You can practice your speed sounds every day by following the links on our class pages.

Red group – Today we would like you to look at the letter group ‘oo’ as in spoon. Ask a grown up to write this list of words. spoon, zoo, food, soon, moon. Use your phonic knowledge to read the words. Now ask a grown up to read the words so you can write them. Listen carefully to the sounds in the words. Can you put one of the words into a sentence?

Blue group – Today we would like you to look at the sound ‘z’ as in zip. Ask a grown up to write this list of words. zip, zig-zag, zap, zebra. Use your phonic knowledge to read the words. Now ask a grown up to read the words so you can write them. Listen carefully to the sounds in the words

Yellow group – Today we would like you to look at the sound ‘n’ as in pan. Ask a grown up to write this list of words. in, pan, tin, net. With your grown up use your phonic knowledge to read the words and have a go at copying the words.

Remember, say the sound, read the word.

This half term our topic is Transport, weeks we are going to be providing activities based around the ‘Barefoot Books’ Magic Train Ride.

Watch the video on the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eSxrPzoZY0

Stop the video when it has reached 3:15 when the train leaves the Land of Cakes

Literacy The ‘Magic Train Ride’ is a journey to different lands on a train.  Think about a journey that you have been on.  Where did you go?  How did you get there?  Did you go in a car, on a boat, in an aeroplane, ride a bike or any other vehicle?  What did you see on the way?

Write about the journey that you went on.

Red – Describe your journey. Tell us where you went, what vehicle you travelled in and what you saw along the way.

Children in red group can write their words and sentence independently.

Remember use your phonics to sound out the words you need, use your tricky word tree for words that do not sound out and remember finger spaces.

Blue – Describe your journey. Tell us where you went, what vehicle you travelled in and what you saw along the way.

Children in blue group are getting good with their writing but will need some support.  Remember use your phonics and listen to the sounds in the words you need and have a really good go with your letter formation.

Yellow – Write a simple sentence with help from a grown up to tell us about your journey.

E.g. I went to the seaside in a car.

Children in yellow group will need you to write the word so they can copy the writing.

Maths

Count to 20 forwards and back.

Red & Blue- Write the numbers 0-20 on some paper or card, cut them up then ask a grown-up to mix the numbers up-don’t peek!  Then see how quickly you can put them in the correct order.  You could ask someone to time you and then see if you can get faster when you try again.

Yellow – Write the numbers 0-5/10 on some paper or card, cut them up then ask a grown-up to mix the numbers up-don’t peek!  Then see how quickly you can put them in the correct order.  You could ask someone to time you and then see if you can get faster when you try again.

Thank you.
